Content:
On a day that started like any other,
Mia had everything: a loving family, a gorgeous, admiring boyfriend,
and a bright future full of music and full of choices. In an instant,
almost all of that is taken from her. Caught between life and death,
between a happy past and an unknowable future, Mia spends one critical
day contemplating the only decision she has left. It is the most
important decision she'll ever make.
Simultaneously tragic
and hopeful, this is a romantic, riveting, and ultimately uplifting
story about memory, music, living, dying, loving. Source: Goodreads
My opinion:
Because it's just a quick review, I'm not gonna scan through all things that I liked or not liked. But what I can say is that for me, it's a bit difficult to decide if I liked the novel or not. I think there were really good and interesting parts as well as boring and super annoying parts.
On the one hand, I really liked how Mia described the characteristics of other persons around her. It seemed very real and I had the feeling to somehow know all the other characters besides Mia. But that doesn't mean that I liked the other persons, I didn't even like Mia, so basically I just found them all a little bit unpleasant. Although there were also parts when they weren't even that terrible and I found some of their characteristics interesting and cool.
I liked the parts when Mia started to tell stories of her old life, like when she played the cello the first time or when she and Adam had their first date. It was really interesting and I enjoyed these party very much! It made the whole story just more authentic and Mia had a background which influenced her presence.
But on the other hand, I didn't like the indecision of Mia. She was always like "Oh my Gosh, I don't want to live anymore, this is all so terrible" and in the next moment she was like "Oh my Gosh, Adam, I love you so much, I can't die because of him". She was just unable to decide something and it made no fun to read this. She changed her mind so often that I lost track somewhere in the book. These parts were super annoying and because of that I had no motivation to keep reading. I was reading this book for a really long time, nearly a whole month! I think it was just because I didn't like it that much...
All in all:
All in all I have to admit that I am a little bit unsure and disappointed of the novel. It had its good and its bad sides but I think that the bad sides overweight. I didn't like Mia or any other characters and I really hated Mia's indecision. It was so annoying!
